First day in Slovakia was split into two half-stages where things were looking good at the day’s first stage for Nicolai Brøchner going into the final kilometer. Just past the Flamme Rouge though, a huge crash ruined the chances for Brøchner, who was sitting in the wheel of the winner Alexander Kristoff.

Later the day was finished with a 7 km time trial where Rasmus Quaade rode very well placing high amongst WorldTour riders as 19th just 36 seconds off winner Stefan Küng, putting him in a good position for the overall classification.

”Quaade rode super well in the time trial. We’re up against the best in the world, and Quick Step and BORA have a lot of their riders in the top 15, so he’s up there with the best. It’s fun to race against these teams and we’re aiming to keep challenging them with Quaade as our guy for the overall”, said Michael Blaudzun shortly after the stage.

”Brøchner was super unlucky in the final on stage 1a, where he crashes 1 km from the line, sitting on the wheel of Kristoff. I’m sure he could’ve made a good result in the sprint, so it’s a great shame.”
