An impressive team performance in Belgium today ended with another great result by the Riwal Securitas riders, as Dutch rider Nick van der Lijke sprinted to 6th in the peloton behind the last two riders from the breakaway.
“The guys showed again today what we can achieve through great team effort”, says sports director Michael Blaudzun. “With 50 km to go, we worked in front of the peloton to bring back the 11 men up the road, and for Nick to finish the way he did, just shows how good he is at the moment. I’m very satisfied and proud of the guy’s racing today.”
The original plan was to ride for the defending champion Arvid De Kleijn, but like the other sprinters, the fast Dutchman had to pass on the chance of winning twice in a row.
“The guys were fast to change mindset and go with plan B instead. But Arvid is in great form, and there’s a new chance tomorrow to sprint in Brussels”, ends Michael Blaudzun.
