A great weekend by Norwegian rider Kristian Aasvold ended today with a 2nd place in the 1.2-race Gylne Gutuer. After a full day of aggressive riding by Aasvold it all came down to a sprint, where he crossed the line behind Team Coop’s Trond Trondsen.

“Kristian attacked right from the get-go and got in the early breakaway. Unfortunately he suffered a puncture and had to chase the peloton from behind”, says sports director Peter-Lee Jeffries. “He got back to the peloton where they chased down the breakaway with just 6 kilometers to go.”

Riding in the bunch the team was preparing to sprint with August Jensen, but the strong Norwegian also suffered a puncture close to finish, why Kristian took his chance with an attack 3 kilometers from the finish.

“I was pretty tired after chasing the peloton after the puncture, but I knew I had to try and attack before the sprint, so I tried, but was caught again. I managed to finish 2nd in the sprint, which I’m very happy about”, says the man himself after the race.

“I couldn’t have won it even with fresh legs. I know the guy who won. We ride quite a lot together in training, and he always beats me in the sprints, so 2nd place was the best possible result for me today”, ends Kristian Aasvold.
