Defending champion Lucas Eriksson and the 2017-Champion Kim Magnusson stood on the start line of today’s Swedish national championships as a two-man army against over 90 other Swedish riders. Kim Magnusson ended the day by crossing the finish line first from a two-man sprint, while Lucas Eriksson finished the podium and took 3rd!
“It feels great to be the Swedish Champion again”, said Kim Magnusson after the race. “And that Lucas finished on the podium as well was just perfect.”
25 laps around the Tierp Arena motorsport circuit was to be raced, where Kim took off in a 5-man breakaway with more than half the race to go, with Lucas Eriksson’s younger brother, Jacob Eriksson, who ended finished 2nd.
“We attacked with 100 kilometers to go. Me and Jacob knew that we were the slowest in the sprint, so we wanted to get rid of the other three guys. With 20 kilometers to go, we attacked and decided to work together until the sprint at the end”, says Kim Magnusson about the events of the day.
The teamwork between the two Swedes in front was necessary as two teams worked in the peloton to close the gap. Lucas Eriksson won the sprint from the group, who finished just 4 seconds down on the two in front.
With the win Kim Magnusson adds another jersey to his existing one from 2017 and ties with his teammate, as they now both have won the Swedish road race championships in the last 4 years.
