After closing gaps himself and attacking in the final, fast man Arvid De Kleijn still had the power to finish 3rd in the bunch sprint at the Belgian one-day race Gooikse Pijl!
Dutch rider Piotr Havik spent most of the day in the early breakaway, but when the group was caught with 60 kilometers to go, the race was on and a 12-man group attacked from the bunch. With no Riwal Securitas riders in front, Arvid De Kleijn soloed his way to the group, where he worked hard to keep the bunch away.
“Arvid showed today how incredible his form is at the moment”, says sports director Michael Skelde. “He was caught 7 kilometers from the finish line and still had the power to sprint to 3rd. Riders like Gilbert and Merlier was also out there on the attack with him but was nowhere to be seen in the sprint. Hats off to Arvid for that display of power.”
The man himself was a bit disappointed with the result, speculating how the sprint could’ve went, if he hadn’t spent energy in the attack.
“Arvid was sure, he could’ve won with fresh legs, but we’re just super happy with the result regardless. He’s very strong now, and we’ll use that momentum for the next races”, ends Michael Skelde.
