This Saturday was the last day of this year’s Tour de Luxembourg, and a with Riwal Securitas Cycling Team in the spotlight! Taking charge of the race, Andreas Kron attacked several times in the hilly laps in the final but was brought back just to win the sprint against the man in the leader’s jersey Diego Ulissi from the UAE WorldTour team. Andreas Kron finishes 5th in the overall classification.

“We did a very good team effort to make the race hard. We had two guys go away in the breakaway, which was perfect and forced UAE to work in the peloton. In the final I had good legs and tried to go away. It came down to a sprint and I still had the power to win”, said Andreas Kron in the winning interview after the stage.

James Shaw and Swedish Champion Lucas Eriksson escaped in the early breakaway while the rest of the team attended to Kron before the finishing laps. Unfortunately Nick van der Lijke crashed out with 30 kilometers to go, leaving Andreas to continue the race on his own.

”Just an incredible day today”, says sports director Michael Blaudzun. “We had James and Lucas in the early breakaway and controlling things up there, while Martijn, Nick and August protected Kron. To win like he did against this competition, and beating Diego Ulissi who’ve won two stages… Just incredible.”

“We’ve had many close calls lately, where it’s just been a swing and a miss. When Nick crashed and had to abandon, I thought ‘not again’, but Kron showed his class and finished this race for us in the most beautiful way possible”, ends Michael Blaudzun.
