An attack launched after just 5 km ended in the ultimate success for young Mathias Norsgaard, as he crossed the finish line alone after 3 hours in the saddle. With the stage victory Norsgaard also takes the lead in the overall classification along with the green points jersey.

“I’m so relieved to take this win!” said Mathias Norsgaard after the stage. “To win a stage in the world’s biggest U23 race is something I can’t quite fathom right now.”

Norsgaard rode off early on the stage with Ziga Horvat from the Slovenian team, but with low enthusiasm from his companion, Norsgaard went full gas in the headwind with 30 km to go and continued on his own.
