HUGE RECOGNITION AND RESPECT EARNED BY FANS AND COLLEAGUES AFTER TOUR DE YORKSHIRE
Four days of racing in Tour de Yorkshire has come to an end, and what a weekend it has been for Riwal Readynez Cycling Team.
A stage win, 4th overall, 2nd in the team’s classification just behind Team INEOS (former Team Sky) and ahead of CCC Team (former BMC Racing Team), a further 3 top ten’s (6th, 7th and 8th) on three different stages and the Dimension Data Digital Jersey of the final day won by viewers vote.
“I think we’ve won a lot during this race in terms of recognition and respect. We’ve become stronger as a team and I’m sure a huge part of the cycling world has seen that in the last couple of days”, says directeur sportif Michael Skelde.
The culmination of the race fell on stage 3 where the team put their strength on display, attacking with Team INEOS and CCC Team 54 km from the finish, where Alexander Kamp sprinted to victory in the end, beating WorldTour riders, one of them being the Olympic Champion and Tour of Flanders winner Greg van Avermaet. Four of the 21 riders in the front group were from Riwal Readynez (1/5th).
“Today was WorldTour-level all the way. We used our riders the right way and took our shot - everyone knew their roles and fulfilled them perfectly”, said Michael Skelde after the stage.
The last day proved to be just as hard as the previous, and again Riwal Readynez took matters into their own hands and attacked more than 40 km from the finish. In the end Alexander Kamp just fell short of following his main competitors and ended 7th on the day finishing 4th in the overall classification.
Also, on the last day Swedish Champion Lucas Eriksson was nominated by Tour de Yorkshire for the award of most aggressive rider - an award won by a viewer’s vote. Eriksson won the award.
“Huge kudos to Lucas for his work, but I believe the award was a vote for the whole team - I think many people have rooted for us in these days and I think he won the award on behalf of the whole team effort, which is an amazing way to finish the race”, ends Michael Skelde.
