A late attack by dutch Pieter Weening held the peloton off, but just a few seconds later, Nicolai Brøchner came flying over the line along the other hungry sprinters in the peloton.
“Impressive by Brøchner today”, says directeur sportif Michael Blaudzun. “It was a tough stage with some climbs in the final and to see him stay up there and even sprinting in the end is impressive - he’s showing good condition.”
10 km from the finish Norwegian Sindre Lunke, one of the team’s guys for the overall classification, unfortunately had mechanical problems and had to change bikes with Rasmus Quaade. Unfortunately, in the end he lost some seconds in the fight for the overall.
“Super unfortunate, but that’s how it is”, says Blaudzun. “The team rode a good stage and fulfilled their jobs, and we got the most of what we could from today.”
In the Czech Republic, Andreas Stokbro also did a good sprint for the line on stage 1 of Course de la Paix U23, where he finished 5th in the bunch sprint - 6 riders from the breakaway were ahead though, and he finished 11th on the stage.
