Even though a bronze medal is noteworthy and would be considered a great result by most riders, Mathias Norsgaard hoped for more, when he took on the 33,4 km time trial at today’s U23 nationals.
“I did a good time trial, which is why I’m quite disappointed with the result. Even though I lived up to my best, I was still beat by a minute and a half”, Norsgaard said after the time trial.
With a time of 40’21’’ and riding the parcourse with 50,6 km/h, Norsgaard did what he’s used to doing, but last year’s runner-up Johan Price-Pejtersen won the race with more than 51 km/h.
“He’s just from another planet”, said Norsgaard about his rival. “I have huge respect for that, but right now, it’s hard looking on the bright side of things.”
Next race for Norsgaard is tomorrow’s U23 road race championships before his focus shifts to the elite championships time trial on Thursday.
