An almost intact peloton rolled over the line in Knokke-Heist where the early escapist Jan-Willem van Schip denied the sprinters a stage win. Rain made sure the final laps got hectic but fortunately all the Riwal Readynez-riders finished in the main bunch.
“It was a long day with rain almost throughout”, says directeur sportif René Jacobsen. “The small laps became a bit dangerous because of the rain, so we’re happy to get through in one piece.”
Still four stages remain of this year’s Baloise Belgium Tour with plenty of tough kilometers left according to René.
“Tomorrow awaits a hard stage with cobbled climbs. Then we have a time trial and then another tough stage with longer hills, before we finish with what looks like a bunch sprint. There’s lots to race for here in Belgium”, ends René Jacobsen.
